vintage clothing (1)
I have the pleasure of working with a local photographer Gareth Hickey. I had spoken recently to Gareth about helping me out with get some shoots for our website. The friday before the shoot he rings saying he has a shoot booked in for the Sunday. Gareth works with a local make up artist Samantha Gardener, who I have so much praise for. We also had the services of Richard Philipart from the Boutique Salon. Richard is a regular attendee of both London and Paris Fashion week. We had a great model in Naomi shooting for us for the day.
One of the images we really wanted from the shoot was the idea of mixing victorian clothing with modern clothing. This look became mainstream with socialite Daphne Guinness. There are many items that may look out of place on todays high street and their place is firmly in period dramas, theatre and musuems. However there are many pieces that can be used today to give a hugely unique and dramatic look and certainly not one that anyone will be wearing. The look can be worn either during the day and carried off into the evening. With the photoshoot we paired a velvet jacket with beautiful lace detailing throughout. Many other items of victorian and edwardian clothing can be worn in todays fashion. Capes are a great item to be worn over evening dresses. Long Victorian coats are also elegant accessory to an evening outfit. Riding habits are great for daywear. Pair jodphurs with a pair of leather boots. Don't be afraid to be adventurous with these looks, you will be surprised how wearable looks are.
